Years ago I was gifted a Bigleaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) sapling from two beloved friends. I cared for it lovingly until 2021 when the Pacific Northwest experienced a devastating heat dome. Sadly, my maple child did not survive. Not wanting it to die in vain, I decided to utilize it to craft some wands, one in particular was being made as a gift to one of the original bestowers of the tree. Adorning it with a leather pouch that once housed my walking stones (another gift from this friend), a garnet for the friend's birthstone, and a quartz for balancing energy. It was such a meditative experience creating a tool to be used for magic practice.
